OUR STORY

About the ACMA Theatre Company

The ACMA Theatre Company is a program of Arts & Communication Magnet Academy (ACMA), a publicly funded arts magnet school for grades six through twelve in the Beaverton School District. We offer pre-professional training in the theatre arts, including acting, voice, dance, sound design and operation, lighting design and operation, and stage management. Students study, design, build, and perform in our state-of-the-art performing arts facility which features a 400 seat auditorium and an intimate 70-seat blue box theater.  During the school year, auditions are open to ACMA students (see the ACMA website for admissions information).  Our summer program is open to any students ages 13-18 (or younger with instructor permission) residing within the Beaverton School District.

Arts & Communication Magnet Academy's disciplined educational environment challenges all students to achieve academic and artistic excellence by honoring and exciting the human need to create and question through a demanding and interdependent curriculum. A member of the International Network of Schools for the Advancement of Arts Education, ACMA is the only stand-alone arts magnet school in the state of Oregon. ACMA is an award winning school of application and draws students, grades 6 through 12, to participate in a rigorous academic program integrated in specialized performing, visual and communication arts.

WE BELIEVE:
  • Magnet arts schools are student-centered, foster diversity and guarantee access and equity for all students to pursue success
  • Arts curriculum is basic to a well-balanced educational program
  • Schools should inspire a love for lifelong learning
  • Students should prepare to be contributing members of a rapidly changing society, global in nature and rich in diversity
  • Students should be evaluated based upon their demonstration of learning through projects, exhibitions, portfolios and active participation in learning activities
  • Parents are critical partners in the educational process
  • School-related accomplishments are critical in helping students develop self-respect and self-esteem
