Audition Prep Sheet for "Curtains," A Musical Murder Mystery! by Holmes, Stone, Kander, & Ebb
What To ExpectFirst, we are asking that you sing a broadway song, along with recorded accompaniment. Pick a song that most suits your range and shows off as much character as possible. Many karaoke tracks are available on the internet, so we suggest you do a youtube search first. We will consider you for all roles regardless of the song choice. This show is a comedy, with a lot of one-liner jokes, you won't be able to be too over-the-top.
We are looking for character. It always helps to understand your character and portray it properly if you know where it sits within the play and what the character's motivation is. We suggest you read the script of the show in its entirety if possible. The song cuts are short, so we suggest you have them as memorized as possible. It is much easier to show character if there is no paper in your hands. Your focus can be on your performance and its effect on the audience instead of looking down at what is in your hands. If memorization is not possible, we understand as well. There may be some cold reads at the auditions. Cold reads are unprepared scenes from the script. Again, to be most prepared for these, you may want to be familiar with the script and characters (along with their motivations). If you signed up for our program, you are absolutely in the cast. The auditions are for consideration for principal/lead roles. (If you haven't signed up, do so as soon as possible to secure your spot. Download the Registration form and bring (or mail) it to the ACMA main office. As of right now, we still have spots left in the program. Spread the word! We are very excited to put on a magnificent show. |
