One of Shakespeare’s most frequently performed comedies, Much Ado About Nothing centers on two intertwined love stories. As soldiers returning from war, Claudio and his friend Benedict visit Messina, where they reunite with the governor’s daughter, Hero, and her cousin Beatrice. Two very different courtships ensue, marked by deception, verbal duels, and hilarity.

Directed by Tina Moscaro
Produced in partnership with Portland Playhouse and the Fall Festival of Shakespeare

Director's Note

Much Ado About Nothing is my all-time favorite Shakespeare play. It’s one of those plays that makes you say, “Did they change the words? Did Shakespeare really write that?” Yes. Yes, he did. This play has it all: romance, betrayal, intrigue, villains. From Beatrice and Benedick’s stabbing wit and wordplay to bumbling watchmen and tongue-tied constables, Much Ado About Nothing will have you in stitches. Join us as we follow the story of a love so great, it requires the scheming of an entire household to make it a reality. It has been a joy to work with this exceptionally large company of enthusiastic and talented artists here at ACMA. Thank you so much for supporting their dreams. We could not do any of this without you. Without further ado, I hope you enjoy Much Ado About Nothing.
