ACMA Summer Musical
THIS SUMMER:  Curtains

ACMA Summer Musical rehearses 4 days per week the entire month of July. It is open to students ages 13-18 (or younger with instructor permission), and attracts students with a wide range of experience levels; some of our students have never been on stage, and others have performed at professional theaters. Everyone who enrolls gets a part, and has the opportunity to learn every aspect of musical theatre production, culminating in a full scale production on ACMA's mainstage. It is taught and directed by program founders Brian & Alana Bertram. Registration begins in late spring, and tuition for the 2017 program is $400. Scholarships are available to students in need. Subscribe to our mailing list to receive program updates.

The application for the 2018 Summer Musical Program can be found here!

The Directors

Mr. Bertram
Brian Bertram
Brian Bertram has been involved in theatre as far back as he can remember.  Performing, studying, and directing, he has had a wide range of opportunities to express his love of the craft. In his recent years at ACMA, he has directed Little Shop of Horrors, The Greater Tuna, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Children of Eden, Once Upon a Mattress, Proof, Into The Woods, and The Spitfire Grill.  He is excited for any chance to share his passion for musical theatre.

Mrs. Bertram
Alana Bertram
Alana Bertram was involved in theatre in her younger years, but strayed a bit to focus on music and other interests. However, musical theatre was always in her heart waiting for a chance to shine again. She became involved with ACMA theatre with The Apple Tree in 2009 and co-founded the summer theatre class in 2010. She is excited for the opportunity to continue to grow and evolve the program.

What Past Participants Say

"Summer musical theatre has helped shape me as a performer in every possible way. It pushed me, and taught me how to be comfortable in my own skin in regards to my craft. For all four years possible, I looked forward to the class each and every summer without fail. I accredit most of my success to how Brian and Alana nurtured and fostered my creative spirit and honed my skill. I wouldn't be the performer I am today, the person I am today, or have most of the friends I have today, if it weren't for summer musical theatre. It's a true blessing to work with them and your peers to create something fun and inspiring. To anyone on the fence, I'd say that this class is a must. Grasp on to this opportunity before it's too late."
-- Chelsea Read, ACMA Class of 2014

"The ACMA summer musical program is an amazing experience. Not only is it super fun, but you meet all kinds of  people interested in theatre, and the direction is so helpful. There's no way I would be half the performer I am if it hadn't been for this program."

-- Scott Castner, ACMA Class of 2016
"ACMA's Summer Musical Theatre Intensive was a great experience for me! We did 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  I got my first ever lead role, and it helped me learn a lot about how to handle that while also always staying engaged and a part of the ensemble. Putnam also really helped me gain confidence in my singing abilities, this helped me so much going into my first professional audition at Broadway Rose this year (which i got a callback for). Probably the best part of Putnam was just getting to work with so many talented people! It was such a fun and welcoming group of extremely talented people that brought out the best in me and my work! It also was an amazing experience to work with Mr. Bertram as a director instead of a teacher, he is very professional and he really encourages everyone to do their best, and he gives everyone equal opportunity!"
-- Piper Tuor, ACMA Class of 2017

"ACMA's summer Intensive was the most fun I've ever had on stage. The Bertrams are fantastic directors and the opportunities they provided me will stick with me throughout my (hopefully) continuing theatre career."

-- Annie Eldridge, ACMA Class of 2016
