Summer Production: Into The Woods
About the Show
Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from "Little Red Riding Hood", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Rapunzel", and "Cinderella", as well as several others. The musical is tied together by an original story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them, and their interaction with other storybook characters during their journey. |
We're thrilled to announce our 2016 Summer Musical Theatre Intensive: the wildly popular, wildly challenging, just plain wild Into The Woods.
PROGRAM DATES
June 27 - July 30, 2016 Monday - Thursday, 9am - 3pm (no rehearsal July 4) Performances: July 28, 29 & 30. ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Summer Musical Theater Intensive runs 4 days per week the entire month of July. It is open to students ages 13-18 (or younger with instructor permission), and attracts students with a wide range of experience levels (some of our students have never been on stage, and others have performed at professional theaters). Everyone who signs up gets a part, and has the opportunity to learn every aspect of musical theatre production, culminating in a full scale production on ACMA's main stage. It is taught and directed by program founders Brian & Alana Bertram. Learn more about the directors and hear from past participants here. Registration is now open! Bring completed registration forms to the ACMA Main Office during school hours (7am - 3pm), or mail it to 11375 Center Street, Beaverton, OR 97005. Registration ends when we reach capacity (50 students). Download Registration Form. TUITION Tuition for 5 weeks (114 hours) of training is just $400. Limited need-based scholarships are available. We will have multiple fundraisers, at least one of which will allow you to raise funds to offset your own tuition. Parents with fundraising skills or interest -- we need you! Get in touch with Kelly Green if you have time and/or ideas. AUDITIONS Tuesday May 24, 6:30 - 8:30 pm Thursday May 26, 2:30 - 4:30 pm --> Download the Audition Instructions Auditions are required for principal roles only. Please register for the program prior to auditioning. Plan to attend both days if possible. Following the auditions on Thursday May 26 we will be setting up for the Karaoke Fundraiser to be held that evening, and to which you and all your friends are invited. What do I need for my audition? Be prepared to sing at least 2 minutes of a song that reflects the style and character of the part you want to play. We will be looking for energy and character, so bring all you've got! Your song choice should be from a broadway musical and should allow you to show your voice across a large part of your range. Please bring accompaniment in the form of a CD - you can find karaoke versions of most songs on iTunes or similar services. Do I Have To Audition? No. We audition for principal roles and solos only - there is no audition required to sign up for the class. We will ask you to do a range test to make sure we assign you to the correct vocal part, but beyond that you do not have to audition unless you want a lead role. |
